Back to My Old Love : Linux Manjaro

Why I Chose Linux Manjaro

They say Linux is a lot like pizza: everyone has their favorite style, believes theirs is the best, and there’s always someone online ready to argue otherwise.

Overwhelmed by Choice

When I first stepped into the Linux universe, it felt akin to entering a massive grocery store just to pick up some bread. Instead, I found 10 varieties of bread and 20 forums filled with heated debates about why my bread choice was awful. The beauty of Linux? The limitless options. The downside? …You guessed it: the limitless options.

My First Linux Love Mint

My adventure kicked off in 2013, when I decided it was time to part ways with Windows 7. I embraced Linux Mint, and it was like putting on a cozy sweater. The interface was straightforward – super easy to navigate. The APT package manager was crystal clear and perfect for beginners. And the support? For every question, there was a guide (or a not-so-friendly forum post telling you to Google it first). But like many first loves, eventually, I craved… something different. Something with a bit more flair.

The Leap to Manjaro

Then I discovered Manjaro. What captured my heart? The community, welcoming, supportive, and incredibly patient… as long as you promised to check the wiki first. Pacman (the package manager, not the classic arcade game) felt foreign compared to APT, but thanks to a mix of tutorials, trial and error, and kind strangers, it soon became second nature.

The Quiet Debian Years

When my laptop began sounding like a steam train and my free time dwindled, I made the switch to Debian. Why? Honestly… sheer laziness. Debian is like that trusty old Volvo: it might not be flashy, but it never fails to start. Stable, predictable, and drama-free, just what I needed during that period.

Back to the Future: Return to Manjaro

Fast forward to today. With a new laptop in hand, I thought: Why not? Let’s return. Now, Manjaro KDE Plasma is back on my machine, and it’s been nothing but smooth sailing. No odd crashes, no strange bugs. Sure, you’ll find horror stories about Manjaro online, but let’s be honest: on the internet, even rainwater can spark controversy. For me, Manjaro is just right at the moment: fast, gorgeous, adaptable, and supported by a community that’s still eager to help, with a troll or two for nostalgia.

Home Again

So yes, I’m back. And this time, I think I’ll stick around longer. Unless, of course, someone creates a distro that brews coffee automatically. Then we can chat.

💡 Tip for New Linux Users: Don’t get lost in the chatter. Choose something that speaks to you, give it a shot, and remember — there’s always someone out there ready to help (and maybe debate about bread).
